Information for Parents
Pride Parade 2022!
Tomorrow at PETNS we will be holding our annual Pride Parade to celebrate all the learning we have done this month about the LGBTQ+ community and to celebrate our school's love of equality, diversity and respect.
Our parade will be starting at 12:35 where we will walk together around the school a few times. We will then finish our parade on yard with a super fun dance moment! Everyone is encouraged to wear any colourful outfits they would like and any pride flags would be greatly welcomed too!
If you would like to join us to watch the parade, you are more than welcome and we would love to see your rainbow outfits too!

Starting School!
Parents, do you have a child starting school next year? The libraries of Ireland have put together a selection of books to help children with their transition to 'Big School' next September. As part of the initiative, a ‘My Little Library Book Bag’ is available free for every child starting school in 2022 to help them to prepare for this big step. Children and their parents or guardians can collect the bags at any library throughout the country.
Each My Little Library Book Bag contains:
Libraries can’t wait to welcome all the 4 and 5 year old children in to collect their book bags and begin their library membership journey.
We hope that once they visit the library to pick up their book bag, our new library members and their families will come back regularly to keep their bag filled up with borrowed books and to take part in storytimes, classes and all the other events we have to offer at the library.
More supports to help the transition to primary school are available on the Let’s Get Ready page on Gov.ie.

Each My Little Library Book Bag contains:
- Three books on starting school, making friends and being comfortable to be yourself
- A story card on going to the library
- A postcard the child can write or draw on and send to their new teacher, or bring to give to the teacher on their first day at school
- Their very own library card and special ‘My Little Library’ cardholder

Forward Together Programme 2022
A 4 week, home-help programme called the Forward Together Programme which aims to accelerate the child’s progress in reading and writing will begin on Tuesday 26th April. This has been done in the school before with great success. The programme will run from 13:10-14:00 on Tuesdays from 26th April and will be facilitated by the Senior Infant teachers.
Research shows that intervention at this time in the child’s learning journey is effective and sets the child up for success in the key areas of reading and writing. This is a once off programme that is offered to selected parents of children in Senior Infants. A programme of this kind is not offered at any other time in the child’s primary school journey.
If you have not received a letter in relation to this programme, it is not relevant for your child. If you did receive a letter, we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 26th April at 13:10 in the Oak classroom.
